The location of the monastery was chosen to protect the peace and solitude of the monks. Then we will pass through Dilijan to Lake Sevan, one of the largest high mountain freshwater lakes in the world, considered the “jewel of Armenia”. The lake coast is full of dense forests, white rock faces, mountain steppes and alpine meadows. Visit Sevanavank Monastery, which includes two churches - Surb Arakelots and Surb Karapet - standing among numerous khachkars. The buildings were constructed of black tuff, which probably gave the monastery the name Sevanavank, 'Black Monastery'. Is Caucasus worth visiting?
Caucasus is a magnificent region geographically located on the border between Europe and Asia. The countries that compose it have a thousand-year history, the richness of which goes hand in hand with the strategic importance that has always characterized this region. A tour of the Caucasus is a journey back in time, to discover fascinating atmospheres against the backdrop of ancient rock carvings, caravanserais of the Silk Road, monasteries and medieval churches. The Caucasus is historically the region that started wine production and the gentle hilly landscapes are still covered in endless vineyards. The naturalistic and architectural wonders of the region will pleasantly accompany your tour of the Caucasus through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, splendid pearls of this magnificent region, with so much to offer but still little known.
